Biography

Law Society Accredited SpecialistMorven has practised exclusively in the field of family law since qualifying as a solicitor in 2003. She deals with all aspects of family law, including the negotiation of pre-nuptial and co-habitation agreements, the division of matrimonial property between separating spouses, and cohabitants’ claims, both on separation and death. Morven also has extensive experience in private child law matters, including residence, contact, and relocation. She has a particular interest in cases with a cross-border or international element and has been instructed by the Scottish Government in numerous cases concerning international child abduction and/or the wrongful retention of children in Scotland. Morven has also frequently acted in cases requiring the enforcement of English child welfare related orders in Scotland.

Where possible, Morven will strive to resolve her cases by negotiation. She is a trained Collaborative Lawyer and is a firm believer that, in appropriate cases, this process can offer clients a more constructive, family centred and solutions based approach to their separation. Morven sees this as a considerable benefit to them, particularly when they have children, and are, therefore, going to have to continue to communicate with each other, potentially for some time to come.

When court action is necessary, Morven is an experienced litigator and has acted for clients in cases including divorce, child welfare issues and cohabitation claims in various Sheriff Courts across Scotland. Morven practised in Edinburgh for the first ten years of her career and in that time acted as Edinburgh agent in a number of complex and novel cases in the Court of Session. She was also instructed in an application to the European Court of Human Rights.

Morven was accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Family Law in 2011 and re-accredited in 2016. She is a Family Law Association Member and a past committee member and Treasurer. She is currently Chair of the Glasgow arm of the Collaborative Law organisation, Consensus Collaboration Scotland.
