The 3 January 2019 brought a change to UK surrogacy law, allowing single parents to apply for a parental order for the first time. We previously reported on this new piece of legislation here.
Importantly, the new law will retrospectively apply for the next 6 months. Those single parents who were previously banned from seeking a parental order will therefore now have the opportunity to do so, for the next 6 months only.
If you find yourself in the situation whereby you could not previously apply but would now like to obtain a parental order securing your parental rights and responsibilities for your child, we can help. Our team of specialist family lawyers has experience of applying for parental orders. Read more on our Surrogacy page.
