The 3 January 2019 brought a change to UK surrogacy law, allowing single parents to apply for a parental order for the first time. We previously reported on this new piece of legislation here.
Importantly, the new law will retrospectively apply for the next 6 months. Those single parents who were previously banned from seeking a parental order will therefore now have the opportunity to do so, for the next 6 months only.
If you find yourself in the situation whereby you could not previously apply but would now like to obtain a parental order securing your parental rights and responsibilities for your child, we can help. Our team of specialist family lawyers has experience of applying for parental orders.
